Alma: When Paths Meet, the third in the concert series, was performed to an overflow crowd at the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music in Fes, Morocco in 2024. In keeping with the Festival theme, ‘In Quest of al-Andalus’, Sami Yusuf brilliantly weaves together strands of Andalusian mawwals and Azerbaijani mughams with the passionate sound of flamenco. With lyrics sung in Spanish, Arabic, and Amazigh, the pieces pulsate with the sounds of each individual tradition and the seamless interplay between them is mesmerising. He was joined by the acclaimed members of The Sami Yusuf Ensemble and outstanding featured soloists including vocalists Nabyla Maan and Ismail Boujia from Morocco, Israel Moro from Spain; instrumentalists José Manuel León from Spain, Antoine Morinière from France, Tarik Hilal from Morocco – all on guitar; Magsad Azizov on balaban from Azerbaijan; and Mohammad Jaberi on daf, from the UK.
